10 Reasons Why Your Samsung Dryer Will Not Spin

We offer repair services on all dryers. Dryer Appliance Repair Service. The brand name doesn’t make a major difference, as the causes of a malfunctioning dryer are similar. Go ahead and troubleshoot it yourself, but in most cases, you will need to call a repair technician. Below are the top 10 reasons why your Samsung dryer will not spin.

#1 The Breaker Is Off

Number 1 reason out of 10 Reasons Why Your Samsung Dryer Will Not Spin

First things first, check to see if the circuit breaker is off. If the laundry room lights, washing machine, or other nearby appliances or outlets aren’t working you may already suspect the circuit breaker.

Either way, be sure to check as the dryer could be on a different circuit breaker than some of the outlets and appliances in the room. Even if the breaker looks “on”, switch it off, then on to make sure.

#2 It’s Unplugged

Number 2 reason out of 10 Reasons Why Your Samsung Dryer Will Not Spin

In terms of your dryer itself, this is the easiest fix. It could have accidentally been unplugged while you were cleaning. Or while one of your pet’s scurried by. Or when something fell off the shelf above.

So, slide it out to see if it’s unplugged. If it’s in a tight spot you may need to enlist some help. Or at least slide it out far enough to see if it’s plugged in. If it’s in a dark spot, use the flashlight on your phone to see.

#3 Thermal Fuse

Number 3 reason out of 10 Reasons Why Your Samsung Dryer Will Not Spin

The thermal fuse is a built-in safety feature that trips when the dryer overheats. While this may be something that you can reset yourself, you shouldn’t—as it trips for safety purposes. If the fuse has tripped, resetting it may put you at risk of a dryer fire. So, a professional inspection is required.

Sometimes the fuse simply needs to be replaced. Either way, hang your clothes to dry and schedule a repair if your Samsung dryer won’t spin.

#4 Door Switch

Number 4 reason out of 10 Reasons Why Your Samsung Dryer Will Not Spin

Another built-in safety feature is the door switch. It’s easy to forget, but dryers are industrial machines. If you stick your arm in as the tumbler is slowing down, you can hurt yourself. To minimize the risk of injury, the dryer won’t spin if the door isn’t closed.

The door switch prevents the dryer tumbler from spinning if the switch isn’t activated. Visually check to see if the door switch tumbler is bent or listen to hear if the door is “clicking” shut.

If it’s bent, you can try to bend it back in place. If you can’t straighten it out or if it won’t click shut, the switch will need to be replaced.

#5 Drive Belt

Number 5 reason out of 10 Reasons Why Your Samsung Dryer Will Not Spin

A broken drive belt is one of the most common reasons your tumbler isn’t spinning. Taking your machine apart is complex and runs the risk of damaging other parts. However, you can manually try to turn the drum by hand. If it turns without resistance, the drive belt probably needs to be replaced. If it turns with resistance, something else may be the cause.

#6 Idler Pully

Number 6 reason out of 10 Reasons Why Your Samsung Dryer Will Not Spin

If the tumbler isn’t spinning, it could be the pulley system. The belt might be working fine, but if one or both of the idler pulleys that suspend the belt are broken—you’ll need to replace one or both.

Broken or damaged pulleys can cause premature wear and tear on your belt. So, even if the belt isn’t broken, your technician may suggest a new belt with your new pulleys.

#7 Drum Rollers

Number 7 reason out of 10 Reasons Why Your Samsung Dryer Will Not Spin

You put your dryer to work, so it’s not uncommon for parts to wear out. The drum rollers are small wheels that support the drum while it spins. If one or more is worn out or one is stuck, it could be the reason why your Samsung dryer won’t spin.

Grab a flashlight to see if there is a gap between the drum and the back of the dryer. If so, you definitely need new rollers. Even if there is not a gap, the rollers could be damaged. A professional inspection is the only way to know for sure.

#8 Roller Axles

Number 8 reason out of 10 Reasons Why Your Samsung Dryer Will Not Spin

The roller axles perform in a similar manner to the axles on a vehicle. They support the drum cylinder as it turns. If you have recently noticed that your machine is wobbly, it could be that the axles have worn out.

#9 Drum Bearing

Number 9 reason out of 10 Reasons Why Your Samsung Dryer Will Not Spin

If you have heard squeaks or scrapes as your dryer turns, it could be that the drum bearing is broken. However, the drum bearing could be broken or worn out even if you haven’t noticed any unusual sounds.

That being said, if any of your appliances are making an unusual noise, call for an inspection.

#10 Drive Motor

Number 10 reason out of 10 Reasons Why Your Samsung Dryer Will Not Spin

Last but not least, your dryer motor could be worn out. There are a few things you can do to get a longer motor life from your dryer, but once it’s done—it’s done.

At this point, you have a few choices. If your dryer is still under warranty, the motor may be covered. If your motor is the cause, you’ll need to consider replacing it or spending a few hundred more dollars than the cost of a new motor upgrading to a new dryer.

Samsung Dryer Won’t Spin
